Grandma’s Easy (no ground beef!) Meatloaf

Meatloaf has always been one of mine and Daddio’s favorite recipes.  Unfortunately when we began our red meat boycott, the meatloaf recipes went out the window along with the quarter cow we had bought.  It was a sad day in our steak loving household.

In reality, I had no hope for a meatloaf made with anything other than ground beef.   It took my mother-in-law to convince me otherwise.  In this recipe she combines ground turkey and ground pork for a delicious and easy to put together meatloaf.  Our family loved it!

Grandma’s Best (no ground beef) Meatloaf

1.5 pounds ground turkey

1.5 pounds ground pork

1 package Lipton Onion Soup Mix

1-2 tablespoons garlic salt

1-2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1-2 teaspoons mustard

1/4-1/2 cup ketchup

1 teaspoon sage

16-18 saltine crackers (crushed)

2 eggs

1/2 cup milk

Topping:  1/2 cup ketchup and 3 tablespoons brown sugar

Mix all ingredients together, except for the topping of course.  You can divide this into two smaller loaves or keep it as one large loaf.  Combine the ketchup and brown sugar and top the loaf.  Place on a lightly greased pan and bake at 350 degrees for one hour.  Check with a meat thermometer to ensure it is fully cooked.  Enjoy with a side of ketchup for dipping!  Save the leftovers for meatloaf sandwiches (my family’s favorite).
